Editorial Standards
Every calculator, guide, and recommendation on Triathlon Regimen is held to the same standard: cite the science, acknowledge the limitations, and never overstate precision.
Scientific Rigor
- Primary sources required. Every formula and benchmark cites peer-reviewed research or established coaching standards (e.g., Daniels, Coggan/Allen, Wakayoshi).
- Validation against published data. Calculator outputs are tested against published tables and known reference points to ensure accuracy within acceptable margins.
- Explicit assumptions. When a calculation relies on heuristics, approximations, or conventions rather than established science, this is clearly labeled.
- Edge-case warnings. Calculators display warnings when inputs fall outside the validated range of the underlying model.
Calculator Development Process
- Research phase: Identify the primary scientific literature and coaching standards for the target calculation.
- Implementation: Code the formula with full type safety and input validation.
- Testing: Automated tests validate outputs against known reference values from published tables (e.g., Daniels VDOT tables, Coggan power zones).
- Review: Each calculator is reviewed for scientific accuracy, UX clarity, and proper disclaimers before publication.
- Ongoing updates: Calculators display a "Last reviewed" date and are periodically re-validated against updated research.
Limitations We Acknowledge
- All calculators produce estimates, not measurements. Individual physiology, conditions, and training history introduce variability that no formula can capture.
- Benchmark data represents aggregated averages, not official race statistics. Use benchmarks for general orientation, not precise comparison.
- This website does not provide medical advice. Consult a physician before beginning or significantly changing an exercise program.
